With snappy one-liners, a poignant premise, and excellent casting, Jennifer’s Body is a touchstone for horror-comedy. It’s Seyfried that steals the show though. One scene comes to mind. In a minor bought of jealousy, Needy’s (Seyfried) boyfriend Chip (Simmons) comments that he too can be dark and moody like their emo-goth peer Colin (Gallner). The camera holds on a close-up of Seyfried: she registers deep affection and replies, sweetly, “Walk me home?” Later, when Chip and Needy declare their love (as Chip draws his last breaths), there’s sincerity between them, unseen in much of fiction film’s final “I love yous.”
